Hi I'm new here, thought I would post something up and say hi at the same time.
I have been experimenting with diffusers for my onboard flash until I can afford a proper off camera flash setup. I am basically using the side of a milk/juice bottle and so far I have been getting ok results.
Setup: 30D + 60mm F2.8 Macro + home made diffuser.

What do shots without the diffuser look like for comparison?
And those are inside where you may be getting some flash bounce off walls/ceilings. What's it perform like outside?

that is similar to the method used by owners of prosumer cameras with no hot shoe - seems to work well.

Lovely DIY- seems to work well 
Tom Hicks on FMforums uses a similar method with an onboard external flash and a 180mm macro lens (and gets excellent shots).

I dont have any online but they have harsh specular highlights and darker backgrounds. The diffuser reduces the amount of light a bit making the exposure longer and giving more ambient light to the scene.
Out side this system still works well adding fill light, its not an ideal setup but it is an improvement over no flash at all.

Thanks, it only cost me two dollars and came with 2 free litres of milk, cheapest camera accessory I have ever bought. I do get funny looks though at the park.
